Sunkoshi River Rafting - 8 Days

Rafting 002

Sunkoshi is one of the major stream sources of Sapta Koshi River of Nepal. Sunkoshi has its origin in Tibet, China, then it flows from north to south to form the great Saptakoshi at Trivenighat. In Nepal language, Sun refers to gold and Koshi is a goddess in Hinduism. There are 7 Koshi rivers in Nepal. Among them, Sunkoshi is one of the major rivers. The merging of 7 rivers forms Saptakoshi (“Sapta” means 7 in Nepali). Kayaking and Rafting can be done in the Sunkoshi River. Sometimes in the rainy season, flooding in Sunkoshi River causes huge disasters, damaging and destroying many lives and property of people who live near Sunkoshi River. However, autumn and summer seasons are suitable for rafting in Sunkoshi River.

Dolalghat is the starting point of the Sunkoshi river rafting trip. So we set up our journey toward Dolalghat from Kathmandu; it takes almost 3 hours drive from Kathmandu Valley. We offer a private vehicle to make our trip to Dolalghat.

Chatara is the ending or returning point of this trip. Dolalghat to Chatara is almost 235 km far from each other. That is why this rafting trip can take up to 9 days to complete. From Chatara, we return back to Kathmandu after about 16 hours drive. If you find such a long drive tiring, the other option is to take a flight from Biratnagar. However, you still need to first take an hour’s drive from Chatara to Biratnagar.
