First Environmental Trekking feels humble to
share its decade’s long experience in the field
of rafting. Our conviction is that White Water
Rafting is the extreme and never-ending thrills
in the untamed rivers. The rivers in the
Himalayas are among the best in the world for
river rafting sports, with many staircase rapids
that challenge the body and spirit of the river
runner. The river cuts against the rocky banks,
crash into rocks, crevices and can be
encountered breaking into white water rapids,
foaming, swirling, and falling in a thunderous
din.
With a major chunk of the Himalayas in the country,
Nepal has excellent white water rafting/kayaking
potential including several rivers still
awaiting first descent. The variety of flora and
fauna combined with the rich cultural heritage
and hospitable people all along the Himalayas
make rafting trips in these region unforgettable
experiences. Most of the river running
itineraries can be combined with a trek, a
wildlife safari and a cultural tour in the area.
Thundering waters, coming from the glaciers of
the mighty Himalaya, provide unmatched thrills
for rafting and immersing oneself in the
landscape. A rafting trip is bound to be the
highlight of your stay in the country.
You will travel in groups in rafts, with an instructor
at all times. Life jackets and other essential
safety equipment are provided. You can stay
overnight in luxury tents, pitched on beaches
alongside the river, as we halt each night. You
can also enjoy campfires and bonfire nights on
river rafting tours in Nepal. As you swoop and
tumble over the rapids with exotic names such as
'Roller Coaster;' 'Crossfire' and 'The Wall' you
will feel the excitement and heart-racing thrill
of white water rafting in Nepal.
Rivers are graded on a scale of one to six, with one
being a swimming pool and six a one-way ticket
to your maker. Four is considered to be quite
challenging without being exceedingly dangerous
to the novice rafter. Five requires some
previous river experience.
Equipments:
Rafts are inflatable boats made of thick rubber, usually
with separate air compartments so that a hole in
any part of the tube does not mean that the
whole raft will deflate and collapse. Life
jackets and helmets are provided as mandatory
gear. Paddles may be made of synthetic alloys
and fibres which are longer and more
maneuverable, or they may be of plain wood
coated with synthetic waterproof paint. Wooden
oars are slightly heavier but break less easily.
On longer trips or more demanding rivers, splash
jackets may be provided.
All the gear and food will be packed inside waterproof
bags and carried on the raft itself. Your
cameras and accessories, stored inside the
waterproof barrel, will be available for your
use during the DAY. The setting up of camp and
cooking will begin as soon as the campsite is
reached.
River Rafting Tips (Cautions and Essentials for River
Rafting)
Rafting can be your favorite sport if you are a normal
healthy person and without any fear of water.
Carry dry bags dry bags or boxes to secure small
personal items you may bring with you and it
usually also have room to accommodate an extra
layer of clothing. Be sure to take any necessary
prescription medications such as inhalers,
bee-sting kits, insulin etc. Avoid taking your
car keys, wallets, cell phones etc. with you for
the rafting trip. Also take along sunscreen,
sunglasses with a strap to secure them and a
camera. Disposable waterproof cameras are easily
available, easy to take along with you and take
good quality pictures.
Appropriate rafting gear on most rivers during the
summertime is a simple swimsuit, nylon shorts,
tennis shoes or sandals, and a hat. Spring and
autumn rafting trips are the ones that require
additional clothing. In any case be sure to
dress in layers so that you can easily add or
remove articles, as you need. Avoid cotton
clothing while rafting, except in summers as
cotton takes away the warmth from your body.
Wool, polyester fleece and other synthetic
materials will keep you warmer and will dry
faster than cotton. Many rafting clubs have
wetsuits available for rent. |
