Kongde is an unexplored trekking destinations in the
Khumbu valley of the Everest region. It is the most
vividly trekking route of the entire Himalayas. This
trekking offers you the most astonishing panoramic views
of Mt. Everest, other Hiamalayan ranges of the Khumbu
valley and the enchanting beauty of the Sherpa
settlement of Khumbu along the Sagarmatha National Park.

Kongde Hotel-Kongde (4250 m.)
It is built following modern engineering standards to
the very last detail. However, it does not fail to
capture the typical Sherpa architecture. The traditional
Sherpa building has succeeded in exuding a warm and
mystical atmosphere that immediately reminds one of
being at the top of the world. It consists of 20
comfortable twin bedded rooms with hot and cold water
and room heating. A restaurant and bar serves you with a
choice of delicacies on “ a la carte” set menu or buffet
of Thai, Chinese, Continental and Nepalese meals. It
also serves you with a wide choice of wines and liquors.
Farakpa Resort-Phakding (2610 m.)
The resort is well furnished with 18 deluxe rooms with
24 hours hot and cold running water. The Dudh Kunda
Palace Restaurant and Bar serves a wide ranging choice
of delicacies on “a la carte” set menu or buffet with
western style sittings.
Khumbu Lodge-Namche (3440 m.)
The Khumbu Lodge in Namche has 20 modern rooms with
attached bathrooms and 24 hours hot and cold water. Its
restaurant and bar serves you with a wide variety of
cuisine and refreshments.
Thame Hotel-Thame (3900 m.)
Thame Hotel with its 12 modern rooms and attached
bathrooms, 24 hours hot and cold water facilities,
provides scenic views of Thamserku peak. The Restaurant
and Bar is done in the Sherpa style with traditional
wooden carvings. This is indeed a perfect place to relax
amidst the beauty of the mountains.
Khumbu Resort-Lukla (2850 m.)
The resort has 12 deluxe rooms with attached bath and 24
hours of hot and cold running water. The typical Sherpa
style room with wooden ceiling gives a sense of warmth
and adds to its homely settings. The restaurant can
accommodate 40 persons and serves the choicest
delicacies on a la carte set menu or buffet. With a warm
fireplace and the magnificent Karyelung Himal gazing
down at you, bask in the serene glory of Mother nature.

Itinerary in Detail
|
|
Day 01 : |
Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2886m.) and it
takes about 30 minutes. Trek from Lukla to
Phakding (2640 m.) which takes approximately
three hours.
You transfer to the domestic airport for your
flight to Lukla. Lukla is a small town with an
airport. There are few tea shops, lodges, hotels
and general stores. You begin today’s trek from
Lukla following a gentle climb up the
mountainside on the left bank of the Dudh Koshi
river. Nupla (5885m) can be seen in the distance
on the opposite bank, is a peak atop the Kongde
Ridge. You descend a mountainside path that
merges into your route to Everest, with views to
a valley to your right; and at its far end,
Kusum Kang (6367m.) The Dudh Kosi approaches as
you pass a Mani wall and arrive at Ghat
teahouse. You continue along a small path with
many climbs and descents following the left bank
of Dudh Koshi to Phakding. Stay overnight at the
Farakpa resort.

Day 02 : |
Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440 m.)
which takes about five hours. The trail starts
along a level path along the right bank.
Thamserku (6623m) looms skyward on the opposite
bank. You cross a stream and climb the terraced
hill from the Dudh Kosi route, to arrive at
Bengar. The trail now climbs from the riverbed
on the left bank into the mountain, through a
forest to Chumoa. You continue along a path with
many ups and downs; cross a stream, and pass by
the tiny village of Monjo. Now you descend the
path of stone steps and return to the right bank
over a wooden bridge. After a short climb you
come to Jorsale’s teahouse and hotel, also stop
at the National Park Service where a park
entrance fee is collected. After your departure
from Jorsale, you enter a forested mountainside.
You follow a short walk along the riverbed of
this V-shaped valley where the river forks - the
right is the Dudh Koshi and the left is the
Bhote Kosi that leads to Nampa La. After short
distance along the Bhote Kosi, begin the steep
ascent to Namche Bazar. As the mountain path
zigzags uphill, you will emerge at a ridge top
rest area that offers excellent views of Everest
(8848m) and Lhotse (8516m.) The climb eases
somewhat, and Namche Bazar appears ahead as you
travel along the path surrounded by pines. Pass
the plateau where the Saturday bazaar is held
and enter the village. Namche Bazar (3440m) is
surrounded on three sides by mountain ranges and
opens out only where it faces the Bhote Koshi.
The village is a central hub of the area and
food, sundries and even mountain climbing
equipment may be purchased here. Stay overnight
at Khumbu lodge.

Day 03 : |
Excursion at Namche Bazaar.
You have an excursion tour to Khumjung and Khude
through the Syangboche. Stay overnight at Khumbu
lodge.

Day 04 : |
Trek from Namche Bazaar to Thame (3800 m.) which
take about 4 hours. Stay overnight at Thame
Hotel.

Day 05 : |
Excursion at Thame. Stay overnight at Thame
Hotel. Today you walk up to the Samdur Peak
which a great trekking destination.

Day 06 : |
Trek from Thame to Kongde (4250 m.) which takes
about 7 hours. You walk through the forest.
Kongde is the ideal place for a blissful
experience. Enjoy the beautiful panoramic views
of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cho-Oyu, Gyjungkhang,
Pumori, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Tawache, Thamserku
and Kusum Kangkaru and other peaks. You can
either make four to five hours trip to Pharak
Peak summit or three to four hours trip to
Sherpa peak for the great view of Cho-Oyu,
Rolwaling Mountain, Everest Himalayan range,
Sumdur Himal and other Khumbu Himalayas. From
the top of Sherpa peak, you can see the Kongde
Himal at a close range and you can feel that you
are nearing the summit of Kongde Peak. Stay
overnight at hotel Kongde.

Day 07 : |
Excursion day at Hotel Kongde.
Kongde-Summit Pharak Peak (4900 m.). You climb
for the summit of Pharak peak for the great
panoramic views of entire Everest region
including Makalu. The view of the Solukhumbu
range from here is like no other. It takes four
to five hours trip to the Pharak Peak summit and
back to the hotel Kongde.

Day 08 : |
Kongde-Summit Sherpa peak (5050m.). On this day
you climb up for 3 to 4 hours to the Sherpa Peak
for the great view of Cho Oyu, Rolwaling Mt.
Everest Himalayas range, Sumdur Himal and other
Khumbu Himalayas. From the top of this peak, you
can see the Kongde Himal at a close range and
you can feel that you are nearing the summit of
Kongde Peak. After the summit, you can go to the
Kongde glacial lake, just half an hour below the
peak. The trip or the lake would be one of the
dramatic trips. Stay overnight at hotel Kongde.

Day 09 : |
Trek from Kongde to Phakding which takes about
four and half hours. The route is steep down to
Phakding. Stay overnight at the Farakpa resort.
|
|
Day 10 : |
Trek from Phakding to Lukla [2800m] and it takes
about 3 hours. Our final day's trekking follows
the Dudh Kosi back down to Lukla. This last
evening in the mountains is the ideal
opportunity for a farewell party with the sherpa
guides and porters, where we can sample some
chhang, try Sherpa dancing and look back on a
memorable trekking experience. Stay overnight at
Khumbu resort.

Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu. You take an early
morning flight back to Kathmandu. |
